Freights Bay is located on the south coast of Barbados, near the town of Oistins. It’s one of the island’s most popular surf spots, known for its consistent, mellow left-hand waves that break over a sandy reef. The waves are perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers, offering a safe and fun environment to learn.

• Swimsuit or board shorts

• Rash guard (optional but recommended for sun protection)

• Sunscreen (reef-safe to protect the marine environment)

• Water bottle

• Change of clothes for after the session (if needed)

All surfboards and other equipment will be provided.

No prior experience is necessary! The class is designed for beginners, and instructors will teach you everything you need to know, from paddling techniques to standing on the board. Intermediate surfers can also benefit from tips to improve their skills.

Yes! Freights Bay is a safe spot for young learners due to its gentle waves and shallow waters. Surf instructors are experienced in teaching kids and ensure a safe and fun experience for all ages.

There are also parts of Freights Bay which are perfect for intermediate and more experienced surfers.

• Warm-up and land instruction: Your instructor will explain wave dynamics, demonstrate paddling techniques, and show you how to pop up on the board.

• In the water: You’ll practice catching small waves with guidance from the instructor, focusing on balance and form. Instructors will provide hands-on assistance if needed.

Classes are usually held in the morning or late afternoon when the conditions are most favorable. Your exact time will be confirmed upon booking.
